Mom had her surgery and although she had some complications that landed her back in the hospital about 12 hours after they released her...she is doing well now. Now it is Dad's turn...he is having a flare up of gout and just not feeling well overall. They made a visit to the ER last night because of dizzy spells and "just not feeling right". Thankfully they believe the dizzy issues were caused by the hard hitting meds for the gout that he started yesterday. After a 4 hour ER visit they were back home. Doctor's orders...take it easy (for those of you who know my dad - yeah right!).
Now onto Taylor - thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers. She did very well with all of her testing - no problems with the anesthesia. We were allowed to gown up and sit in on the whole procedure, which was very informative. We could watch the screen and see exactly what the scopes were showing. Dr. Bax explained everything he was seeing whether it be good or bad. The only problem we were able to confirm that day was that she definitely has acid reflux. We could see erosions in her esophagus, so she has been on Prevacid ever since to heal the erosion and stop the reflux...we are already seeing fewer episodes of reflux. She will remain on this for about 6 months and then we will reevaluate the situation. Nothing else could be visually confirmed during the tests, but they also took several vials of blood and many, many biopsies.
Unfortunately (or fortunately - however you look at it) all of the tests came back normal. So, our next "plan" is to reintroduce her to dairy...very little. Plus we are trying the probiotics route (the good bacteria that you can now find in yogurt and cheeses at the grocery). She is also doing a little Benefiber each day. She did go on an antibiotic for 7 days due to a week long stint of diarrhea after the testing. They thought she had some bad bacteria in her digestive tract, so that was the course of action for that.
That brings us to this week: After a few days of normal stools we are back to diarrhea a couple of times a day. So I get the fun job of taking her for a new x-ray today - the Dr. and NP want to see if she is impacted again or just what's going on. She has hardly eaten since Sunday, so who knows at this point. We are trying to work with the Dr. and NP to find a better way to relieve her bloating, gas, cramping, etc. In a "normal" week we hear "Mommy/Daddy my tummy hurts" maybe 2-3 times a day - this week I can't even count how many times she talks about her tummy hurting in a day. So, after all of that, we'll keep you posted on Miss Taylor. :)
Bryce has been developing great lately - he is crawling the regular way now, pulling up and climbing over everything. He is even starting to cruise along furniture a little. He has 2 teeth coming in (his left eye tooth and his left front tooth - how funny is that!). On the not so great side of things - we got to thinking about Taylor's excessive spit up and such when she was little and started wondering just how long she went undiagnosed with the reflux. Well, Mr. Bryce has many of the same issues as big sister did back in the day. When we were at the specialist's office last week we added Bryce to our list of questions concerning the reflux. Well, before we could even get to that list he spit up right there on the exam room floor for the NP to see (wasn't that God's timing for sure!). She looked at it (and smelled it - yuck, very acidic) and then did a quick exam on him) and guess what???? Not only does our princess have reflux, but so does our little man. How exciting. Taylor and Bryce will both be seen again in November to see how we are coming with the Previcid. Please continue to pray for both of them. Pray this medicine will stop the reflux and heal their little throats - poor things.
Okay sports fans now onto the parents: I have a mysterious swollen/sore ankle...did not twist it, hurt it, nothing...so I have been seen by my GP and a Rheumatologist. They have both done several x-rays and blood work, just waiting to hear what they think. Daddy has been doing well. Can't remember if I mentioned it in a previous post, but we had GREAT news that he is officially no longer a cancer patient. He has reached the 5 year mark with not complications, so he is FREE, FREE, FREE! Praise the Lord for this wonderful news - we needed it!
I also have terrific news about my Aunt Linda - she is officially in remission now from her cancer. 5 of us accompanied her to her appt. to receive her latest scan results and let me tell you how the tears were flowing! Thank the Lord for Dr. Harb and the onc. staff at Unity - she had a very aggressive cancer and he knew just how hard to hit it. She was definitely doing the happy dance yesterday!
Well, I think I have gotten you all back up to date. I will close with some cute pics of fishing on Father's Day. Take care all.
